My name is Amy.

I’m a pretty boring person, usually.

But I’m setting out on a weird, risky adventure that I’ve always dreamed of doing.

It’s funny how life has a way of giving you what you ask for… for example, I was asking for a way out of renting. And suddenly, my lease was up, I had a little extra cash, and my lovely Man Friend, in jest, suggested buying a motorhome.

I’m fascinated with minimalism, tiny houses, and nomadic lifestyles. I absolutely hate having a 9-5 job.

I will admit, I was a tiny bit drunk when he suggested it, but immediately the idea resonated with me. I jumped on our local classifieds and started searching for RVs in my price range.

-FYI, my price range was uber-cheap to uber-uber-cheap. I didn’t want to spend under 4k for the entire thing.-

Once I was sober, the idea still stuck. Why am I spending $1300 in rent, plus nearly $1000 in utilities, when I could own something and do what I want with it? Yes, I plan to buy a home eventually, but I’m not sure what I want yet.

To throw a curveball in the plan, I’m 29 years old and a divorced mother of two wonderful boys. Their father and I split their parenting. They are 8 and 10. I was young when I had them and somehow I came out of that with a college degree, a great job, and a lot of life lessons. But still, I’m hating the way I throw my rent money away, and I’m not quite ready to buy a house. Plus, let me explain this again- I HATE RENTING. Yeah, I should probably write a blog post about that.

After weeks spent browsing classifieds, a few trips to look at RVs that were destined to cost me thousands to be safe on the road, and a little luck, I found my beautiful gem. His name is Cousin Eddie the Warthog Freedom Fighter, shortened to Eddie.

I know I’m getting into things I can’t begin to predict. I know he will cost money, and I know he’s going to teach me a lot of things along the way. I love him already.

At the moment, I can’t quit my day job. I’m a nurse, and I truly enjoy what I do. I don’t do “bedside” nursing anymore, instead I work for a government health agency. I don’t enjoy dealing with bureaucracy, missing important moments with my kids, and sitting at a desk for eight hours a day. Maybe someday I can change that, maybe someday I can’t. As of now, I’ll be working while full-timing, which means I can’t hit the road and travel as much as I like. I also have my lovely kiddos, who spend half their time with their dad and half with me. If I was traveling, I would have to set up a new parenting plan, and I don’t think they are ready to have that part of their life upended at the moment.

So, I’m here, and I’ll be full-timing at a local RV park and traveling as many weekends and vacation days as I possibly can! It’s going to be a wild ride, and I can’t wait.
