Top Travel Destinations

Every year, a bunch of popular travel websites put together their “top”, “must”, or “can’t miss” destinations for the year. We visited all of our favorite websites:

TripAdvisor

We took the data from their yearly favorites lists, since 2010, and compiled all of that information into one simple map.
We ended up with over 400 different cities and countries from these nine different publications. We used a weighted average that took into account the average rank for a city and the number of times it was mentioned by a publication. For example, Paris is mentioned 19 times through these nine publications from the years 2010 to 2018. This is quite a few mentions, relatively, and earns the City of Lights 2nd place, beat out only by Rome.

Mentions – The number of times the city or country appeared in destination lists
Average Rank
–Countries – The average rank of all the cities within that country
